I Like Rainbows – Infamous and Prototype Tie-Breaker
Posted on | July 5, 2009 | No Comments
For those of you that follow Zero Punctuation, you may recall that Yahtzee did a comparison between the video games Infamous and Prototype. After pointing out their strong and weak points, the charismatic stallion was unable to declare a winner. Assuming his advice would go unheard, he suggested that both studios could break the tie by drawing their rival studio’s main character in a bra.
Apparently both of them were listening.
Back on Friday Yahtzee wrote an short article on the Escapist, stating that representatives from both Sucker Punch and Radical had taken his offer seriously and had sent him images of the other studios character looking very pretty (or at least trying). Yahtzee pointed out that not only did were both Cole McGrath and Alex using their powers to make themselves extra fabulous, but they were drawn with a rainbow and a unicorn.
To read the full article and to check out the pictures (I dare you) you can click here.
Kudos to both studios for being such good sports.

Big News from Otakon and Madhouse Inc.
Posted on | June 23, 2009 | No Comments
Today Otakon and Madhouse made two big announcements. First they announced that Director Masao Maruyama will be returning to Otakon this year, followed by the announcement that they will be featuring an original anime short that will premiere during opening ceremonies.
Since graduating from Hosei University in 1963. Mr. Maruyama has been involved in the anime industry for almost forty years. He helped establish Madhouse Ltd. in 1972, and about was later inducted into the board of directors in 1980. Being personally responsible for green lighting the projects at the studio, he has helped create titles such as Barefoot Gen, Vampire Hunter D, Trigun, Perfect Blue, and many more.
The studio and convention then sent out another press release officially stating that Madhouse will be releasing another animated short that will premiere at opening ceremonies. Although the short from last year was considered a hit, there were some legal issues the soon followed. This year the convention hoping to play it a bit more safe. Jim Vowles from Otakon’s Guest Relations had this to say:
Last year, we threw in everything but the kitchen sink, and somehow they put most of it in…
..The end result was loaded with in-jokes and geek references but the animators had a bit too much fun making it, and some of the parodies were a little close for comfort. We’re hoping to avoid some of that this time around, without sacrificing any of the fun.”
Although they are concerned about legal reprimands regarding using the likenesses of various characters, there is currently an effort to get the okay to make the short available.
The convention will be taking place at the Baltimore Convention Center. From July 17 – 19. For more information go to otakon.com.

MAD – SOS Dan The Video Game & Haruhi Sentai SOS Dan
Posted on | June 17, 2009 | No Comments
After coming out of my hibernation, I’ve posted two new videos that I found recently featuring that new “Goddess” Haruhi Suzumiya. The first was recently posted late last week called SOS Dan. It’s a doujin (fan) video game made by Mount Punch. The object of the game is to have Haruhi shoot down falling objects, with the help of the SOS Dan. The second video was made a few years ago called Haruhi Sentai SOS Dan (after the jump). I’m not familiar with the theme song played, but I liked how they spoofed the series to look like a Sentai.
Enjoy!
