Counter Strike Player Involved in Shooting, as a Victim and a Hero

Comments Off

With all the bad media that gamers have been getting, it’s almost nice to hear that the gamer was a victim rather than a shooter – I say almost because in the end someone still has to get shot. Game Politics posted an article a short while back which bears worth repeating… again. A few days ago The Sun (stay with me fellas), reported that Adam was gunned down when he went to the aid of a female security guard. He was then rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. Currently Adam is in serious but stable condition, and regained conscious overnight, but it looks like it’ll be a long haul for now. Hmm… People complain about the Virginia Tech shooter being a gamer; I wonder how many gamers he shot that day (food for thought).

Kill 10 People With a Shotgun in a Row = Cheney Mania!

Comments Off

It seems Freedom of Speech is nowhere near life support, and Cheney’s hunting incident isn’t that stale of a topic either. Apparently, there was an achievement in the game where if you “Kill 10 opponents in a row with the shotgun without dying” called Cheneymania. It was reported and removed. Pressure from the White House? Probably not. Even practical jokes have to run their course.

From Creative Design to a Witch Hunt: Memories of a 1995 High School Graduate

Comments Off

In the year 1995, a student from John Burroughs High School thought it would be a really cool idea if he made a video game which incorporated members of his marching band. When he was making the world layout, he used buildings that he was familiar with, the mall, the library, and most importantly his school. The school was probably the one thing he had the most fun doing. Every detail that he could think of was in there. The administration rooms, the cafeterias, the library, the student store, It was three floors worth of memories… I never finished the game, and chances are it’s buried somewhere next to Jimmy Hoffa, but I’m looking at this article in Game Politics. It’s about a student there that used his school for a map he created in Counterstrike and was arrested out of fear for being a terrorist threat. It really is a drag to think how much things have changed in the past few years. I did ponder the thought of taking my old diploma over there and saying “Hey guys, you know all those people who are getting kicked out of school putting it in a game? Well I did the same thing twelve years ago, do you want my diploma?”.In closing I just wanted to send out one last message to non-gamers who might be reading this. After the incident Joystiq got a hold of some screen shots of the video game. I must say he really did a fine job in paying attention to detail, and if he were to be hired by a game company, he would probably be making big bucks. It’s almost like watching Martha Stew- oh wait, bad example. um, Bob Villa! Yes Bob Villa hasn’t been arrested has he? Oh good. The whole incident is like watching Bob Villa make a model of a school, and then getting arrested for plotting out a terrorist threat. Hey it’s not too far fetched, is it?
