Lessons Learned from Comic Con San Diego 2007

Comments Off

1. There is no spoon. There is no parking near the convention available for less than twenty bucks either.

2. It really doesn’t matter how much you screw up a panel as long as your audience is laughing all the way through.

3. If you only have eighty dollars to spend at the con (cue mocking), remember that most deals don’t kick in unless you spend at least thirty dollars at a booth.

4. 99¢ Manga rocks.

5. Asking a question at a Q&A panel is good. Asking two questions is tolerable. Trying to have a conversation while there are ten people waiting in line makes baby Jesus cry.

6. Hollywood hasn’t killed Comic Con. How can it? Have you seen the 101 from Hollywood to the 5?

7. MST3K? Yeah they still rock.

8. There are still people that are still sensitive about Steve (go to the above site and check out “Women of Wongo”. If I had to explain it, then it won’t be funny).

9. Supergirl is a hottie.

10. Girls can fly at an age when boys can’t because girls mature faster than boys.

And I’m back from San Diego. Actually, I was only there for one day, and I wasn’t able to post anything until right now. I am going to post a few reports from some of the anime and manga panels that I went to later, but I will say this for now, it has been confirmed that Laura Vandervoort will be playing the role of Supergirl, and yes that was Bizarro at the end of the last season. Not J-Pop related true, but I’m sure there are a few of you out there that do watch the show.

God of War PSP is Now Up to a Grand and a Quarter

Comments Off

Yesterday, Joystiq posted an article regarding a God of War-themed PSP being sold on Ebay. Now a day later, the portable console has gone up to $1,275.00 US Dollars; that’s almost one and a half times than before. Fifteen percent of the sale goes to Child’s Play, a charity that donates toys, books, and games to children’s hospitals in several countries including Australia, the US, Canada, and Egypt. According Ebay, the auction is due to close Sunday, July 29th, about four days from now. Get it while it’s one of a kind!

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games

Comments Off

Now here is something no one would’ve predicted back in 1991 (though I’m sure are a few gamers who have pondered the idea). As a gamer who was there at the dawn of the rivalry, it is funny to watch Sonic take an early lead, only to have Mario keep up. At this point, Nintendo is tight lipped about the project, but with the Olympics only a summer away, (and a release date set for this fall) that is sure to change.

For Your Consideration… Younha

Comments Off

While I had always planned on posting interesting tidbits found throughout the web, I never thought of using it to directly promote specific artists, visual or performing. In this case, it is a K-Pop and J-Pop singer named Younha. Her music has a laid back feeling that is heavily influenced on American rock, both modern and classic. I also have a clip below of her rendition of Leann Rimes’s “How do I Live” (pardon the difference between audio and video).

Revelations from a Best Buy Ad – Coupons for a Half-Asleep Shopper

Comments Off

During my eager attempt to go to bed before midnight last night, I hit the send/receive button on my E-mail provider on accident. Not expecting anything at this time of night, I was relatively surprised to see that I got an e-mail. It was an ad from Best Buy. They had this image showing its primary sales pitch:

Whhhhaaaaa?

Apparently over the weekend, Sony decided to announce that they will be dropping the price of their PS 3 (60GB HD $499). So, now our choices are, a small and modest console for about $250, a red ring of death with a three year warranty for $300, or a… um… um… a PS 3 for $499. Well I’m going to bed. If I’m still asleep when this race starts to makes sense, give me a nudge.

Tokyo Pop 2.0 Beta is Available for the Public

Comments Off

It looks like Tokyo Pop is giving their new web site another go. Earlier today Jim De Vico, Director of Operations, formally invited one and all to once again venture into the new site for “the next hour or so”. OmoshiroiBlog caught onto the news around 3 p.m. (PST) this afternoon, and as of 11:30 p.m., the beta release has yet to be closed off again. In this second shot, there were fewer unavailable pages than before; this gave viewers and testers a better chance to understand how the intended layout is supposed to work. Unfortunately, many inexperienced testers are still finding themselves lost in the lack of navigation tools. Like the previous release, Tokyo Pop is looking for its supporters for feedback, and to report any sort of bug found throughout the site. Now for those who are still hesitant to venture into the new world, don’t fret; the old site is still up and running like before.
