OmoshiroiBlog.net 2.0 in 3… 2…

As much as I would like to keep tweaking the code, especially the articles, now is as good a time as any to add the new patches for the site. First I’ve added some much need code to make it easier to navigate older entries beyond page one. If no one knows what I’m talking about then I claim ‘no harm, no foul’. I’ve also made good use of my advertising space on the right side of the page (speaking of which, a big shout out to Play-Asia.com for being my first affiliate). And last but not least I’ve archived all the articles from DGH Studios (and then some) onto the site’s database. I’ve even tweaked the banner so that it will coordinate with any new articles posted.

I admit that there are still a lot of things that still need to be improved, and the current fixes are just a drop in the bucket. So as always I’ll thank you for bearing with me, and I hope you’ll stick around.

Montyoum Presents Dead Fantasy I

Comments Off

Wow. How do I miss these things? It’s been almost two months since Montyoum released his newest project, “Dead Fantasy I”, and it looks like his best film since Haloid. While the battle sequences are tight, you will be blind sighted by the ending…

DGH Studios "Wraps Up" the Year With a Collage of Articles

Comments Off

Last year when I created DGH Studios, I thought it would be nice to bring back all the old “feature” images for my articles, and I like the way they all mixed and match with each other I decided to do it again. Even though I am planning on posting at least two more articles before the end of the year, it seems like a good time to do it since they are going to be on a database rather than write them directly onto an HTML file. So for your viewing and (hopefully) reading enjoyment, the links to both years are down below, and here’s to another year!

Parents are Sold a Five Hundred Dollar Phonebook Instead of a New Playstation 3

Comments Off

DOH! I saw this on the morning news, and I was hoping to post it when I got back, but it looks like Kotaku beat me to it by about a few hours. Anyways, a teenage boy got a surprise Christmas morning when he opened up his present. It was supposed to be a brand new Play Station 3 ($499.99), and two games. As it turned out, the console was replaced with a local phone book. The thirteen-year old isn’t really broken up about it, in fact when he saw what happened he said that he was “more laughing than disappointed”. His parents however, aren’t quite as chipper, seeing as their local EB Games had sold them a five hundred dollar phone book. The highlight of the reel had to be at the end when they showed his two younger sisters enjoying their present, a karaoke machine. When the story hit the news Christmas evening, the mother was planning on going back to the store on the 26th. Fox news caught up on them, and a spokesperson for the store involved had said that issue has been resolved. See the source below for the full video.

Quick Intermission – Legend of Himiko: the Abridged Series

Comments Off

Ah low profile, you are a doubled edged sword. Although these “slower days” gives me a chance to focus on other things, it can also be a bit frustrating not having anything to post. So while I go off and handle some business, here is something I found on YouTube to keep you entertained. It’s called “Legend of Himiko: the Abridged Series”. It’s a spoof of the original series that uses pop culture references, sexual innuendos and really REALLY bad English voice acting (intentional of course). Oh yeah NSFW.

tokyo pinaslocks Will be Making their US Debut at Anime Boston 2008

Comments Off

JapanFiles.com announced earlier today that it will be bringing tokyo pinaslocks to the Hynes Convention Center for next year’s Anime Boston. Having visited the other side of the pond back in February, the band gained an instant fanbase during a week long tour there. Here is what a few British magazines and had to say about their music:

“tokyo pinsalocks offer tripped-out psychedelic pop that recalls Jane’s Addiction and Lush in equal parts” – Daniel Robson, Disorder Magazine

“Keyboard-led pop sensation tokyo pinsalocks play danceable, rhythmic pop with nary a guitar nor agenda in sight” – Neo Magazine

Seeing as my vocabulary is limited right now I will just say that, their rhythm undoubtedly has a bounce that you can can’t help but groove to, and whether you’re in your car or on the dance floor, you’ll be bobbing your head or swinging those hips. For those of you who are planning to attend Anime Boston, a music video has been placed at the top for a sneak peek of things to come.

Anime Boston will be taking place March 21 ~ 23.

For Your Consideration… Sugoi Life

Comments Off

A co-worker and I were in the Northridge Fashion Center last weekend when we came across a small shop on the North End of the mall called Sugoi · Life. Although we were pressed for time, the two of us took a quick peek inside. I knew this was going to be more of anime shop when I saw the tall display of Japanese ceramics at the front of the store. Then I began to notice how the store had an assortment of themes going through it. To my left there was a collection of plush dolls and resin models from different anime and video game titles, and to my right a small part of the wall was dedicated to J-pop magazines, CDs, and live film. Their variation of sweets was a bit more expensive that what you would find in Little Tokyo, but that was about what I expected – also given the price of gas it’s probably cheaper for residents of the area to buy it here than to drive down to the basin. The back of the place carried the sophistication of a books store with its small selection of stationary, books, and t-shirts. Finally, the heart of the shop looked to be a collection of towels that were in the shape of different cakes and parfaits and other desserts. The mock desserts were displayed in a showcase like the ones meant to keep food cool.

Overall it was a nice shopping experience. Despite its small size they were able to focus on products in the Japanese culture that was fun, stylish, practical. I also recommend their collection of towels as a gift for someone whose home is already accessorized with decorative soap or glass candy. They also did a good job in organizing the shop so you have a good idea as to where everything is. The people running the shop were also rather helpful and they answered my questions in a timely manner.

Sugoi · Life is located at the north end of the Northridge Fashion Center about halfway from Border’s Bookstore and Pacific Theatres. Its official address is: 9301 Tampa Ave. Store #146, Northridge 91342

JapanFiles.com Announces the Return of the Japanese Pop-Punk Band ketchup mania to America for a Special Engagement at Sakura-Con 2008

Comments Off

KM

No less than a week since announcing Budo Grape’s appearance at A-Kon, JapanFiles.com has now announced that ketchup mania will be having a live performance at Sakura-Con next year. This will be their first return to the United States since their debut in A-Kon this year. Their performance in Texas was considered a treat for both the audience and the performers as they played for an audience of over 2000 people (their biggest concert ever!). It should be interesting to see what lies in store for them in Washington. While there is no music video this time, the image above does link to samples of their CD “Greetings from Tokyo”, which includes “Namida Vacuum Sound”, one of the songs that they plan to perform. Should you be daring enough to play it with people napping down the hall, I think it’s only fair to warn you, IT’S LOUD!!!

For more information go to www.sakuracon.org.
