For Your Consideration… Pepper Lunch (Milpitas)

On my way to San Francisco, my friends insisted that we stop at this restaurant in Milpitas called Pepper Lunch. With over 70 locations in Japan and a handful just beyond the island nation, this is the only location here in the US. Normally my allergies have kept me from enjoying 90% of the Asian foods I’ve come across, but in the grand tradition of finding out what was and wasn’t safe for me to eat by trail and error, I went for it.

Arriving just minutes after opening, we were immediately and gracefully seated, by one of the waiters. The waiter and waitress were dressed casually, they were well groomed and neatly dressed. It was a small restaurant which only seated around thirty people. While both my friends ordered the Beef Pepper Rice, one of the restaurant’s signature plates, I ordered cut Steak with rice. That’s when I the waitress asked me if I wanted Garlic Butter or Teriyaki sauce, both of which I’m allergic to. Taking my chances, I ordered a light serving of Teriyaki sauce.

The waitress came back with the food rather quickly to my surprise, and that’s when it really donned on me that the beef was brought to me on a hot skillet intentionally raw. Apparently the meat is cooked at your table, much like a Galbi House or Yakiniku except without the grill. In a way I was relieved since grilling would mean anything I was allergic to would be thoroughly cooked. As I continued to cook the meat and sauce, I enjoyed my serving of sweet corn and rice. When all was said and done, I was the first to finish everything off of my plate.

If you are going to be in the San Francisco area or just around San Jose, I do recommend you give Pepper Lunch a try. It has friendly service, a nice atmosphere, and good food delivered to your table in a hurry. A few words of advice, if you do plan to go be sure to arrive early. As we were in the middle of eating, lunch hour rush arrived and a line began to develop outside the doorway. Pepper Lunch also closes during the middle of the day so you be sure that you check ahead before going. And finally be sure to pick up their frequent meal card. Pepper Lunch located just south of where the 237 and 880 meet. It’s official address is: 408 Barber Lane, Milpitas, CA 95035.

Are We There Yet?

If you’re feeling tired, make sure you either pull over to sleep or take turns with a friend.

Shorter people appreciate it when the driver’s seat can be moved forward. On that note make sure it works before the trip.

If you ask someone where Chavez Ravine is, be wary that San Francisco pigeons are the biggest Giants fans out there.

Always have money for a car wash.

If you look hard enough for a Taiyaki shop in J-town, you’re bound to find it.

Unfortunately the same can’t be said when looking for chocolate covered macadamia nuts…

Or your own taiyaki maker for that matter.

The Oakland Bay Bridge from northbound Embarcadero… breathless.

The Palace of Fine Arts is smaller than you’d expect from watching the movies.

Turtles are camera shy.

Ducks aren’t.

On an average day, two people are hit by a car in the San Francisco area.

When you almost hit NINE people, you begin to wonder if it’s because they don’t understand the concept of the traffic light – or a sidewalk.

When crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, always have at least three people.

Just because there is a diamond painted on the road, doesn’t mean it’s for carpoolers.

The V6 Mustang. For all your road trippin’ needs.

There aren’t enough Sonics on the 101. There is just no excuse.

When two African Americans and a Mexican American speeding down the freeway in the middle of the night, no one seems to mind…

Should the same trio stop for gas or an ATM then HELLO!

They sure know how to cater at a NIS America Event.

Three major articles and a professionally written “For Your Consideration” due within the end of next week. Ugh. Any ways I’m back from covering the NIS American Event up in San Francisco. I want to thank the staff at NIS America for their hospitality as well as the bartenders at Zebulon for all those orders of cranberry juice that I ordered. Finally if you’re curious about where the word bubble is located, we stopped early on at an In-N-Out over in Oxnard.

It’s going to be rather strange posting this FYC right before my next one, but any ways here goes nothing. A co-worker showed me this site. It’s called FAIL Blog. It’s a collection of various pictures and videos that feature people and animals missing their mark and making hilarious mistakes. Although there are other sites out there that are older than this one, I found it to be a lot more user friendly and easier to navigate. There also seem to be more entries on this site than others. You can click onto the picture to jump to the specific entry, or go to http://failblog.org

Universal Fire

Having worked at Universal for over ten years, I have a few buddies that are working a hop skip and a jump away from where the fire is. Although I have heard of some injures as a result of fighting the fire, I am really glad to hear that there are no fatalities, and that everything that was destroyed today can be replaced. A big shout out once again to the firefighters on location.
