null

Kotobukiya released a press release late January featuring images of resin figures that are set to be released this May and June. They included Hinagiku Katsura, HMX-17c Silfa, and the (Egyptian) half of the cast of Yu-Gi-Oh!

Starting with Hinagiku she is wearing her “on stage” outfit that she wore in episode 12 of “Hayate no Goku” (Season 2). Despite her previous reservations earlier in the episode, we see her below passionately posing while wearing a long pink dress, and short black shirt. Her white shoulders pads and gloves have yellow trimming, and a waist wrap tied with a red ribbon complement her black shirt. Her outfit is complete with pink shoes, a star for a head piece and a wireless earpiece with microphone. Designed by Haruhi Murakami, Hinagiku stands almost 8 inches tall (in 1/8th scale) and comes to you in a beautiful window box. Hinagiku Katsura -On the Stage- Ani*Statue is scheduled for release in the US this May with an SRP of $59.99.

The next figure is from the To Heart 2 spin off called “Manaka de Ikuno!! FINAL DRAGON CHRONICLE GUILTY REQUIEM”. It’s HMX-17c Silfa in her bard outfit. Donning a flirtatious purple and black mini dress she complements her outfit with matching hat and gloves. She finishes it all with a pair of black shoes and long stockings plus a ribbon above each ankle. Kotobukiya has also paid a high level of attention to her guitar, which includes real strings. Sculpted by Nishimura Naoki, Silfa stands 8 ¾ inches tall (1/8th scale) on a specially designed display base and comes to you fully painted and ready for display. With an SRP of $69.99 Silfa Bard ANI*STATUE will be available to the US this June.

Last on the list we have several One Coin Mini Figures from the Yu Gi Oh series. Called the “Ancient Battle” collection it includes ten Yu Gi Oh characters in ancient Egypt garb. Each character comes with two dialogue plates that attaches to the base. The collection includes:
• Black Magician
• Black Magician Girl
• Blue Eyes White Dragon
• Touzokuou Bakura
• Isizu
• Mariku
• Seto
• Atem
• Yami Mariku
• “Secret Figure”

Each 2″ – 2 ½” figure is sold in individual blind boxes. With an SRP of $5.99 each, they should be available this June.

Sculpted by Shoukaku Kitaike, her base is designed to match her cast member Kaori Kanzaki. With an SRP of $54.99, look for her in May.

If this were the anime, her next move would be to race towards Hayase and slap him across the face. Emi from Line Barrels of Iron is seen here trying to keep her modesty after her straps have come loose. Sculpted by Sho Koima, she is 1/8th scale like her cast members in the Ani*Statues series. With an SRP of $49.99 she is coming out in May.

Comic Con 2008 Special – Kotobukiya's Booth (Part 2)

There is no try
The next report on Kotobukiya is on a new ARTFX+ Statue collection is on the new Star Wars CGI movie, The Clone Wars. The movie is… a prequel to a… side story that takes place… during the prequel saga (pardon my humor Mr. Lucas). The Clone Wars collection is divided up into two (hopefully more) series, and the theme for the first series are the Jedi. The first image below is of Obi Wan Kenobi standing seven inches tall and in his protective armor. The next one is of the movie’s protagonist Anakin Skywalker. Standing just a quarter inch taller than Obi Wan, his dark color scheme contradicts with his teacher’s lighter shade of brown. Last but not least is Anakin’s young padawan Ashoka Tano. The Togruta female stands a bit shorter than her other jedi coutnerparts at 5 4/5″ tall. The familiar figure on Ashoka’s back is Rotta, the infant son of Jabba the Hutt. Collectors will also be interested to know that the backpack that little tyke sits in is also an interchangeable accessory, and can also be placed on the back of Anakin. Finally fans of the series will also be happy to know that each character comes with a bonus piece to Yoda the grand Jedi master, which fans will be able to easily build once they collect all three statues (as you see above).

With an SRP of $59.99 each, the statues are set to hit the streets this coming January.

Next time: Moe statues recap!

Onto the pics!

If Her Shovel Doesn't Get You… Organic Hobby Annouces the Release of Strike Witches Elizabeth

Last month Organic Hobby announced that it will be releasing the resin model of Elizabeth from the series “Strike Witches” in the US Market. This will be in conjunction with the company Beagle.

If you’re looking for information on her, you might have to dig a little deeper than usual. Although her character design is based on the OVA, no seiyuu has been casted as her voice; she has yet to appear in the TV series playing on Crunchy Roll as well. After doing a little research, the closest I could find was one Elizabeth F Beurlung from the original Light Novel. Her appearance is a bit different, but here’s a fun fact, according to a relationship cart used for the novel, she is somehow associated with Lynette Bishop (yes that Lynette). We’ll see how it all turns out in the future.

Getting back to the model, Elizabeth stands at 6 ½” tall; she comes fully painted and packaged in a window box. She comes with several removable parts including her hat plus goggles, glasses, tail and her striker unit. The character designs are directly inspired by Fumikane Shimada’s Mecha Musume’s illustrations. Mr. Shimada has played a major role in creating the girls of Strike Witches, and you can find him credited in the light novels and both mangas.

With an SRP of $75.00, Elizabeth will be hitting the streets this October.

Comic Con 2008 Special – Kotobukiya's Booth (Part 1)

Darth Vader & Bounty Hunters

So if you’ve been following my blog, one of the companies that I follow closely is Kotobukiya.  I originally met them at last year’s Comic Con and I’ve always had a lot of fun posting their new resin models ever since.  When I met up with them this year I was (at the very most) expecting to meet up with one of my contacts named Shingo, so I could put a face with the name, shake hands, and briefly talk about the companies plans.  So when he offered to open up the cabinets after I took care of some other business, do you think I came back?  (Does a cannon full of flour make a big mess?)

The first pics I have are from two of George Lucas’ biggest sagas Star Wars and Indiana Jones.  The first is from the Bounty Hunter series.  They began the series earlier in the year with several different bounty hunters.  As you can see the stand for each of the figures is composed of a piece of the empire symbol.  A portion of Darth also comes with each of the bounty hunters, and makes up the center piece.  You can buy a similar Darth on it’s own, but you’re don’t mind keeping up with this series, then it really pays off.

The next pictures are from the Indiana Jones universe.  A new experiment by Kotobukiya, these are three goblets themed around the first three Indiana Jones films, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom, and the Last Crusade.  As you turn the gobblets around, you will see various plot points to each of the movies.  Some details are really subtle such as the “Leap of Faith” represented by a little hole in the back of the third goblet.  My personal favorite is the “Temple of Doom” goblet, not just because it seems to have the most detail, but the little things like the chains that lowered the cage into the lava, or the two little Thungee riding down the mine cart (oh yeah if you ever wanted to know what the Kali statue looks like from behind, check out the 8th picture).

You can check out both of these series and more at http://kotous.com

Next time: The Clone Wars!

Lessons Learned from San Diego Comic Con 2008

Comments Off

  1. Bruce Campbell at a Dark Horse panel…. Hilarious
  2. Anime Expo + Anime Friends < Comic Con (125,000)
  3. Comic Con + Comic Con + Comic Con + Comic Con < Comiket (550,000)
  4. Hiro Mashima pwns.
  5. Go watch Hell Boy 2 in theaters now…
  6. Go watch I am Bruce in theaters this October…
  7. When they turn the lights off in your panel, it means that they really, really, really want you to wrap up that last question.
  8. “Movies aren’t made, they escape” – Bruce Campbell.
  9. A day pass for the trolley costs 5 dollars, unless all you have is a twenty, then the price is fifteen with two free passes that you can give for your party of three (me, myself and I).
  10. ALWAYS BRING A FIVE DOLLAR BILL FOR THE TROLLEY!
  11. Those extra passes are non-transferable, and you can get cited for it.
  12. To get into a trolley you must push the green buttons beside the door.
  13. No, the trolley will not wait for you to figure it out either.
  14. The Padres may be doing better than the Dodgers right now, but our light rail system still rules.
  15. If a cop asks for your transit pass, and should you choose to piss and moan about it, just remember that your experience with them could have been much MUCH worse – I will say that the cops were pretty cool with me.
  16. Pay Phones.  That’s all I’m going to say about that.
  17. I scare people.  I really don’t mean to, but unfortunately I don’t come off as friendly or sociable.

And I’m back.  As you can tell by the last half of this list, I had quite an adventure using San Diego’s transit system in order to save some money in parking.  And while this is just the tip of the iceberg I will say for the record, that I also could’ve done some things better, and yes I will be using the system again next year.  On that note, Comic Con International this year was a BLAST!  I was only there for one day, but I will say every panel I went to and every booth that I stopped at was awesome.  Having said that, I want to give my congrats to BeKyoot.com for making it to the con.  I know it was still up in the air for a while but I’m really glad you guys made it.  Also while I was happy with most of the booths that I stopped at, I really want to give the biggest shoutout to both Kodansha and Smith Micro.  Even after my schedule was thrown out the window, these guys still treated me well beyond what I deserved.

With all that out of the way, blog entries coming up shortly, reviews and panel transcripts on their way, I got pics, I got video, and there’s still those two articles from Anime Expo that I still need to handle (God Bless July!).
