Happy Twenty-Ten!

Comments Off

Yup, I said Twenty-Ten.

Here’s hoping this next decade is a lot better than the last one. Moreover, here’s hoping we are more willing to face whatever this new decade throws in our way than we were the last one. And who’s to say we can’t handle it? After all, despite every piece of the BS that tried to spook us last decade, we’re still here…

WE’RE STILL HERE!

CrunchyRoll vs. FUNimation – Tower of Druaga

FUNimation vs. CrunchyRoll

If you were like me, you might remember that one of the biggest complaints about Druaga (Aegis) was the poor resolution at the beginning of the series. This was especially the case when the Kusarakk went storming down the tunnel.

While the stampede is still a bit fuzzy, the video quality is noticeably higher. Of course the only drawback from being a FUNimation loyalist (fanboy) at this time is the fact that they lack any sort of schedule, and it’s impossible for the public to know when a specific episode will be posted (just sayin’)

April 1, 2009 Round up

Comments Off

In keeping with the festivities that make April 1st there are many sites that take it upon themselves to tweak the truth a bit in the name of humor. Here are a few that I’ve spotted:

Tokyo Tosho becomes Beijing Túshuguan – With the rise of Chiniese media in the world, Tokyo Toshokan has decided to accommodate to change their site language to Mandarin and their web color to Red and Yellow.
The Escapist sponsored by Pony Jam – Leeroy Jenkins Memorial Coliseum. Pretty funny. I can’t think of anything else that I was looking forward to watching on this site. Oh wait…
Unskippable/Zero Punctuation crossover Part 2

Graham Stark stays true to his word and makes a brief appearance as he tries to review a game ZP style. Do I need to remind you that it’s NSFW?

Think Geek – Squeeze bacon? Who are they- Interactive Protal T-Shirts? Yay!

Crunchyroll new anime series – Not really a joke per se, just a new anime series that is a slice of like and happened to begin today.

Wikipedia – tweaking the excerpt to be a bit funnier.
Uncyclopedia goes bye bye – WTF?

I’d shamelessly plug my own feeble attempt at making a April Fools joke, but since it’s the next blog entry down why bother. All I can say is if I ever get enough money to hire Monty Oum I am so going to add images.

Here’s to next year.

Japan Nite '08 – A Very Belated Report

Japan Nite

First off an apology

I wanted to do a more formal article on Japan Nite’s stop a Hollywood, but with everything that has been thrown at me in April, it kept getting pushed back further and further. Now here we are May 1st and the damn thing still hasn’t been written – wha, wait a second MAY 11th?! (Sigh). Let’s get this started before it’s June… of ’09…

SCANDAL
The first band took the stage about half an hour after it was scheduled to begin. The group was dressed in the traditional High School uniforms. Although they appeared to be very “cute”, they had a bit more than their looks going for them. With a solid foundation of musicianship, their sound had an aggressive bite to it, but it also flowed very smoothly. If I did have to criticize their act, I’d have to say that they were stretching their crash course in Japanese a bit too long.

PETTY BOOKA
I really wasn’t expecting to hear Blue Grass next, and when they played Alan Jackson’s “Don’t Rock the Jukebox on their ukulele, it seemed like I wasn’t the only one surprised. Still the bottom line was there wasn’t any mocking from the crowd and the small bursts of laughing quickly subsided. The group wasn’t bashful in showing their skills as the played several solos throughout their songs.

KETCHUP MANIA
Although I was familiar with ketchup mania’s way of playing, I really wasn’t ready for how intense they planned to be that night. It really began while the group was setting up. The drummer named Wani walked in with his sticks and had a seat. At this point I was thinking “Okay, he’s warming up. This should be cool.” He did not hold back one bit! The energy from his warm up flowed through the room and woke everyone up. When they opened up with their own song “Girl’s Mind”, the ground began to shake. And then there was the small mosh pit that emanated only five feet away from me.

DETROIT 7
For a band straight from Japan, detroit 7 sure picked the right name to call themselves. Picking up where ketchup marina left off, the group played Garage Metal with such an intensity that they might as well have been from Motor City. The best part was about halfway through their number when their lead guitar, Tomomi Nabana, began to play the Star Spangled Banner out of nowhere.

Looking back, I think the best part of that night was how relaxed all the groups were in front of the audience. Usually when I go to large conventions there is invisible wall that a separates the band from the audience. In this case the groups tried to approach the people who came to watch them play as much as they could. There were even times with the last two groups where the lead guitarist would lean over and wail just above the crowd.

Singing the QA Career Blues

Blues

Oh yeah… Now I remember why I became a tester. A friend of mine showed me this job posting for a Test Manager in Japan. The salary is set between 10 and 14 million yen (I am assuming per year). That is around 98 to 132 thousand dollars. Sounds too good to be true? It’s not. While living on an entry level’s salary far from wine and roses, Test Managers have been known to make within this range. Think it’s a difficult position to jump into? Sure is. If you look at the requirements you might notice that the job requirements include at least six years experience as a test lead and a bachelors degree (oh yeah and this one requires that you speak Japanese fluently). Think it’s beyond your reach? Well, if you believe you don’t have a shot…

The deadline to apply was last year, but if you want look at the level of dedication, then you can follow this link here.

Six years of experience huh?

I was planning on posting something else tonight, but after I saw this screen shot, I had a change of heart. This goes out to all those hardworking firefighters out there, and to the people who lost more than just time on the 405.

Revelations from a Best Buy Ad – Coupons for a Half-Asleep Shopper

Comments Off

During my eager attempt to go to bed before midnight last night, I hit the send/receive button on my E-mail provider on accident. Not expecting anything at this time of night, I was relatively surprised to see that I got an e-mail. It was an ad from Best Buy. They had this image showing its primary sales pitch:

Whhhhaaaaa?

Apparently over the weekend, Sony decided to announce that they will be dropping the price of their PS 3 (60GB HD $499). So, now our choices are, a small and modest console for about $250, a red ring of death with a three year warranty for $300, or a… um… um… a PS 3 for $499. Well I’m going to bed. If I’m still asleep when this race starts to makes sense, give me a nudge.

Tokyo Pop 2.0 Beta is Available for the Public

Comments Off

It looks like Tokyo Pop is giving their new web site another go. Earlier today Jim De Vico, Director of Operations, formally invited one and all to once again venture into the new site for “the next hour or so”. OmoshiroiBlog caught onto the news around 3 p.m. (PST) this afternoon, and as of 11:30 p.m., the beta release has yet to be closed off again. In this second shot, there were fewer unavailable pages than before; this gave viewers and testers a better chance to understand how the intended layout is supposed to work. Unfortunately, many inexperienced testers are still finding themselves lost in the lack of navigation tools. Like the previous release, Tokyo Pop is looking for its supporters for feedback, and to report any sort of bug found throughout the site. Now for those who are still hesitant to venture into the new world, don’t fret; the old site is still up and running like before.

Coming Back to Earth After Paris: The Opinion of an In-Betweener

Comments Off

One again sorry about stepping out of Geekville, and into the mainstream, but this just had to be said.

And so the day has come. Like waiting for that four to six week delivery to arrive, Paris Hilton’s release date came surprisingly fast. Daddy’s having a big welcome home bash, the paparazzi are trying to get that shot of her first bite of freedom, without getting their cars towed, and everyone is placing bets on how long it will the take for the temptation of a screwdriver to make her forget how much she hates the color orange.

I’m really not going to say much about her place in life. Lord knows that even with my straight and narrow path, I am far from being the picture of success. The truth is, I’m writing this to find closure to this endless scandal, which ironically, I am contributing to. I am really hoping after this, she will stay off my tube for a while. I know the only way this will happen is by one, she stays out of trouble and two, the paparazzi get so bored of her that they start looking for other news like, Iraq, or Afghanistan, or dare I say the Arctic Circle. Heck, while I’m at it I might as well wish for world peace, and a PS 3 for less than $300. Too much? Yeah, getting back to the topic.

Now in the last decade, statistics in California showed that one out of every three DWI reported are a repeat offense, and if Pairs was released back then, there would’ve been a 44% chance of a repeat DWI offense within seven years or so. Not that I don’t have faith in the girl, but I am really hoping that she doesn’t fall into those statistics; if not for my sanity, then at the very least for the well being of a fellow human being. Sadly, I have very no power to change things beyond my own self. Therefore, from this point on, all I will do is wish her well and not give her a second thought.

Now ending on a humorous note, I saw this article on TMZ.com about her cravings for Taco Bell. Paris, please. I love Taco Bell as much as any other Southern Californian. But the truth is, even they can’t compete with this place!

Welcome to Omoshiroi Blog

Comments Off

Hello everyone, and welcome to OmoshiroiBlog.net! This site is primarily focused in three categories: The first is covering news from the J-Pop industry (Anime, Manga, Video Games). Whether it’s a new series out in Japan, or an event happening in the U.S. we aim to post it. The second features news and humor from our American geek culture; from web comics to swag, we will cover it. The third is a collection of skits and comic, made by our own staff, where we spoof some of the people and events of our culture. As you can see the site isn’t too flexible, and there aren’t too many features. I hope to take care of that in the months to come. I hope you stick around, as this site continues to grow.
