Weekend Update June 18

Anime Midwest announced on Monday that the LeetStreet Boys will be performing at the convention next month. Other guest appearances will be voice actor Micah Solusod. Anime Midwest will be taking place from July 15th to the 17 at the Phesant Run Resort in St. Charles, IL. For more information visit animemidwest.com.

MADHOUSE’s Producer Masao Maruyama and director Sunao Katabuchi will be appearing at AM2 this year. AM2 will be taking place from July 1st to the 3rd at the Anaheim Convention Center. For more information visit am2con.org.

Anime Expo announced on Wednesday that it Stephanie Yanez and Dig Jelly will be performing at Club Nokia during the weekend of the convention. Taking place July 2nd it will take place from 9 PM to 2 AM and is open to all attendees. Anime Expo will be taking place from July 1st to the 4th at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Wendee Lee will be appearing at Anime USA this November according to a press release that came out on Thursday. Known best for her role as Faye Valentine from Cowboy Bebop, her voice acting range has also led her to such as Konata from Lucky Star and Tina from Ai Yori Aoshi. Anime Usa will be taking place on November 18th to the 20th at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington VA. For more information visitanimeusa.org.

Kaos Studios, the developers behind Homefront has closed shop according to Gamasutra. THQ told the webzine that this was part of a “strategic realignment. THQ went on to say that they are actively hiring at the Montreal and Austin studios, which lended a hand in making Homefront, and employees from the shuttered studios will have an opportunity to interview for both.

A telecom employee from Shanghai named Wang Kang is apparently a very big Iron Man fan. According to The Telegraph, Mr. Kang went to work in a replica of the Mark 1 suit, and scarred the crap out of his fellow workers. The suit took three months to make and is made up of high density foam wires and tubes, and weighs around 112 lbs.

Rampant to Appear at Tekkoshocon

Tekkoshocon announced last week that hard-rock band will be performing at the upcoming Tekkoshocon. Their appearance is courtesy of JapanFiles.com

Originally formed in Osaka, the female-led band began in 2005 they released their first album “CHOICE OF LIFE” in 2008. Their second album “BLOSSOM” followed years later. The group has opened for SURVIVE and METAL SAFARI, and have played alongside groups such as exist trace and Dazzle Vision.

I posted their music video “NAKED” above, which was featured in their second album. Tekkoshocon will be taking place at the Wyndham Grand Hotel in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from March 31st to April 3rd. For more information visit tekkoshocon.com.

Gelatine to Perform at Zenkaikon

Zenkaikon announced today that the Japanese rock group Gelatine will be performing at the convention next year. The group is based in New York and is led by Seiko, formerly from the band 10 Yen Anakinoko.

Rose Noire to Perform at Zenkaikon

Zenkaikon announced today that Japanese Goth band Rose Noire will be performing at their upcoming convention next year. This will be the group’s first appearance in US soil.

The group was founded by Louie (Vocal) and Jill (Violin) who were students at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. While their music stems from classical, they have mixed it in with a grand variety of other styles of music (Rock, R&B, Electronica, etc.). One of recent achievements includes winning the ZOOM award at the SONY-ZOOM DEMO tape competition.

Multiple Announcements Made on Behalf of Hikaru Utada

There were three announcements made for singer Hikaru Utada today. The news includes a concert, a new commercial and her own twitter account.

Utada will be performing her first solo concerts in Japan since her tour in 2006. The concerts which will mark the twelve year anniversary of her debut single “Automatic / time will tell” will take place on December 8 and 9. She also been cast in a commercial for Pepsi Nex. This is her first television commercial in five years. Finally in leading up to her album’s release “Utada Hikaru Single Collection Volume 2″ she has launched an official Twitter account.

X Japan to Begin First Official US Tour

Visual-Kei group X-Japan announced today that they will begin their first “official” tour in the US starting later this month. The tour will begin at the Wiltern Theater (*cough* Korea Town *cough*) and end the tour in the Roseland Ballroom in NY, NY.

Three More Bands to Join Far East to East Showcase Concert

The New York Anime Festival announced on Thursday that Boom Boom Satellites, Zazen Boys, and Echostream will be joining musical guests Puffy AmiYumi for the Far East to East Showcase (FETES) concert. The concert is produced by Superglorious.

MELL to Appear at Anime Expo as GOH

Anime Expo announced on Thursday that Musical Artist MELL will be appearing at AX as a GOH. The press relase goes on to mention that she will be performing a concert at the Nokia Theater on July 2nd during the convetnion.

Originally rising to fame with her debut single Red fraction, her musical talent can be heard in titles such as Rideback, Sky Girls, and Black Lagoon. Anime Expo will be at the Los Angeles Convention Center from July 1st through the 4th. For more information visit anime-expo.org.

Stereopony to Appear at AnimeNEXT

AnimeNEXT announced today that Stereopony will be appearing as a musical Guest of Honor. The group has been featured in anime titles such as Bleach, Mobile Suit Gundam 00, and Darker than BLACK.
