PMX to Hold Way of the Stick and the Blade: Tournament of Filipino Martial Arts

Pacific Media Expo announced that they will be holding the “Way of the Stick and the Blade” during the convention. The competition is open to all levels of experience and will feature three different competitions: Esgrima, Kali, and Arnis.

The Esgrinma and Kali tournaments will follow the World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation (WEKAF) regulations, and Arnis will follow double elimination format.

The competition will be taking place on Saturday, November 12th. Registration for the first competition is $75, and $25 for each event thereafter. Club 2 the Max to Hold Pirate Rum Party at Matsuri Festival 2011

Club 2 the Max announced today that they will be holding a Pirate Rum Party at next year’s Matsuri Summer Festival. The three day festival will be free to attend.

The press release goes on to mention that there will be a handful of prizes to be won from DVDs to Japanese snacks in popular casino games such as Blackjack/21, and Spanish Monte. There will also be other activities including belly dancing, and “The Auction”, where guests of the party will be mandated (kidnapped) and sold off to the audience.

Contest for Ai-Kon's Mascot

Ai-Kon announced last week that they are holding a contest for their mascot, Aiko. This is in celebration for their upcoming ten year anniversary in 2011.

The top three winners will get a free art table and a weekend pass to Ai-Kon 2011. The grand prize winner will also get an Ai-Kon t-shirt and their art will be used for Ai-kon 2011 pormotional materials and merchandise.

Here are the rules and requirements:

Entries must be full-body images, with no background.

Images should contain the subtle integration of the number 10 (It should be noticeable but not have any predominance over the image, as Aiko should be the focus of the piece).

Images featuring poses, outfits and/or hair styles of copyrighted characters, or copyrighted characters themselves, will not be accepted.

No adult-themed images will be accepted. This will be at the discretion of Ai-Kon executives. Please ensure entries are suitable for all ages.

A maximum limit of three entries per person will be accepted. Please note; all entries should be individual and not adjustments to an earlier entry.

Entries must be full-colour, 300 dpi resolution and submitted electronically in JPEG or PSD format. A smaller version of your entry may by submitted for judging as long as a higher resolution version is available.

You may also post artwork to your own web site, DeviantART account, or other hosting service and e-mail us the URL.

Do not use a watermark on your submission.

When submitting entries, please use the following naming format for your file: firstname_lastname_01.jpg (or PDF). If you are submitting more than one entry, please number them appropriately (i.e: firstname_lastname_02.jpg, firstname_lastname_03.jpg, etc.).

How to enter:

E-mail entries to art@ai-kon.org. The following information must be included with your entry:
In the subject line of your submission e-mail please list and “Ai-kon Mascot”. (Ex Jane Doe- Ai-Kon Mascot)
-In subject, please list your real name, and Ai-Kon Mascot
-Your real first and last name
-Your artist nickname (if you use one)
-Your e-mail address (the one you use)
-Your telephone number

Participants will receive a confirmation e-mail within a week of submission. Entries must be received no later than Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 11:59pm and will be judged by Ai-Kon executives. The winning entry will be announced on or before Sunday, January 29, 2011.

All entries and rights to the images become property of Ai-Kon.

The Escapist 4th Annual Film Festival

Graham and Paul from Loading Ready Run took some time to promote the upcoming Film Festival at The Escapist. The site has started accepting material for the event, which takes place in Early November.

The two of them cover the majority of the details in what’s required of the entries. All entries must be sent in no later than 11:59 EST, October 29, 2010. If you’re going to be in the Los Angeles Area on August 28th, there is an upcoming video game tournament in Burbank (East-side of the San Fernando Valley).

Here’s how it breaks down. There will be five different video games throughout the day, with an entry fee of $5 per tournament. All matches are double elimination with best 2 out of three matches. The titles are:

Aniplex of America to Hold Gurren Lagann Cosplay Contest

Animeplex of America announced today that they will be hosting a Gurren Lagann cosplay contest. Prizes include bages to Anime Expo and VIP seating to the screening of Gurren Lagann the Movie – Childhood’s End.

The contest consists of two categories. The first category is for Kamina and the second category is for any other character from the Gurren Lagann series. Contestants have until June 17 to enter. For more details about the contest head over to acparadise.com.

Pacific Media Expo Announces Two Events and a Raffle

For those of you who are going to be free in the LA area this coming weekend, PMX, and the Kyodo Japanese Language School System would like you to take part in the Anime Swap Meet and Cosplay Contest. It will be taking place at the Monterey Park Cherry Blossom Festival.

The festival will be taking place on April 17 & 18 with the contest taking place on Sunday at 4:30. The festival is free to the public. For more details, please go to the City of Monterey Park’s website.

New Single from LM.C and Short Video Regarding A-Kon 20

Japan Files sent out a press release regarding LM.C’s new single and the canceled show at the upcoming A-Kon.

First off, their single PUNKY HEART was just released on their site. It consists of two songs and is available for $1.98 US. The song Days is the opening theme song for the video game KATEKYO HITMAN REBORN! for the Nintendo DS.

Following the cancellation of their upcoming performance at A-Kon 20, LM.C made a special comment video for their fans who were hoping to see them later this month. Japan Files is also running a contest just for A-Kon attendees where they can win various autographed prizes. The winners will be picked by maya and Aiji themselves.
