U.S. Court of Appeals Rejects Two Oregon Censorship Laws

Comments Off

On Monday, September 20, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit has struck down two laws from Oregon regarding furnishing of obscene material to minors. The Court represents the Western Region of the country.

From the Anime News Network:

According to the decision issued by the court and posted by the Media Coalition, the laws were overly broad and could criminalize the furnishing of materials with some adult content that may otherwise have redeeming value. The Portland-based Powell’s bookstore chain and online retailer provided numerous examples of these materials, among which was Kentaro Miura’s manga Berserk. According to the court’s decision, Berserk features a “fantastical sex scene between Charlotte and Lord Griffin” but would not “count as hardcore pornography.”

To read the entire decision, go to cbldf.org.

For Your Consideration… oshaikeuchi

Comments Off

In my “grand” effort to plug fledgling people and companies in the industry, I have decided to plug a young artist from Canada nicknamed oshiakeuchi (a.k.a Ocean).

oshiakeuchi has been using copics for the almost two years and seems to have a knack for it. A denizen of Anime North’s artist alley, she has competed to do their mascot (*cough* May 28 to the 30th at the Toronto Congress Center*cough*). She is also working on her first manga called covers; the video above features the cover art. Her manga will be available there.

For more information about her work visit youtube.com/user/oshaikeuchi or oceanchan.deviantart.com/.

Viz Media To Publish I'll Give It My All… Tomorrow May 18

Comments Off

Viz Media announced Thursday, that the Manga series “I’ll Give It My All… Tomorrow” will on sale in North American Bookstores starting May 18. The series is rated T+ for Older teens and has an MSRP of $12.99.

The Title was created by author Shunju Aono. Currently being released at SigIKKI.com, the premise for “I’ll Give It My All…” is as follows:

This is the story of a hapless forty year-old salaryman who quits his job to pursue his dream of becoming a manga artist – and the family that has to put up with him. While not terribly unhappy, Shizuo Oguro can’t fight the feeling that something in his life just isn’t right, so he walks away from his stable (yet boring) day job to embark on a journey of self-discovery. Unfortunately for his family, this journey also involves playing video games all day while his teenage daughter and elderly father support him.

IMHO: Oh if only this series was being released tomorrow.
