Weekend Update – November 5

Monday was a busy day for Anime Network as they announced that they will be simulcasting three titles on their site. The titles included: Phi-Brain ~ Kami No Puzzle, Majikoi ~ Oh! Samurai Girls, and Mashiroiro Symphony ~ The Color of Lovers. The first two episodes of Phi-Brain are currently available with more on the way. The first two episodes of Majikoi will begin streaming (on Anime Network) on November 15th at 12 PM EST. Mashiro Symphony will begin streaming November 21 with two episodes and each will be following shortly after. Anime Network will also be releasing each series on Hulu within twenty four hours of when it’s released on their own site.

Two announcements from Anime USA this week. has announced that voice actress Monica Rial and Tony Oliver will be appearing at their convention. Her resume includes titles such as Burst Angel, High School of the Dead, Kiddy Grade, and RahXephon. Most old school anime fans (self included) know Tony by the the small role he played Robotech when he portrayed Rick Hunter. His humble resume includes Lupin (Lupin the 3rd) and Hibiki Toukai (Vandread). Also Anime USA will be taking place November 18th to the 20th at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, VA. Pacific Media Expo announced that their Anime Nightclub will include the roast of Richard Epcar. Some of you may know him as the voice of Zangetsu from “Bleach”, others may know him as Batou from “Ghost in the Shell”. No matter what he has been a major influence to the Anime industry here in the US. Pacific Media Expo will be taking place from November 11th to the 13th at the LAX Hilton in Los Angeles, California. FUNimation announced on Thursday that it has acquired the rights to Hellsing Untimate OVA 8 in addition to 1 through 7. The OVA series is a retelling of the series with even darker elements than the TV series. FUNimation will begin releasing the series next year.

Nobuo Uematsu and his group Earthbound Papas will be performing at the upcoming MAGFest. MAGfest X will be taking place January 5-8, 2012, in and around National

Sentai Films announced two titles this week the first is the long anticipated Broken Blade followed by Akikan. Both targeting young males, Broken Blade is a mecca drama, while Akikan is a harem comedy – a little something for everyone. The first 50 minutes of Broken Blade will be available sometime this month, and both titles will be released sometime this next year.

Pacific Media Expo made two GOH announcements this week, first off we have Anime Director Yasuhiro Imagawa from mecha titles like Giant Robo, Tetsujin 28, Mobile Fighter G Gundam and Shin Mazinger Sh?geki! Z-Hen. Later on PMX announced that Mecha Designer Tsuyoshi Nonaka who also worked in Shin Mazinger Shougeki! Z-Hen. FUNimation announced on Friday that they acquired two new titles first off is the melancholic series and movie “Fafner”. They then immediately after announced that they have acquired distribution rights to the movie “Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror”. No word on when they will be released.

Seven Seas Entertainment has announced the licence for two new titles Alice in the Country of Clover plus Angel Para Bellum. Alice in the Country of Clover is based on the character of Lewis S. Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland”, while Angel Para Bellum is about a young man named Mitsuru who must be protected by two beautiful angels after his family is murdered. Both titles are set for release in June and July 2012 respectively.

Rock Star games announced that will now be ported to the iOS and Android. Just in time for the ten year anniversary.

Christina Vee to Appear at Pacific Media Expo

Pacific Media Expo announced that Voice Actress Christina Vee will be appearing this year. Her most recent roles includes Mio from “K-On”.

As a voice actress she has played roles in anime titles such as “Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha”, “Tekken: Blood Vengeance”, and “The Familiar of Zero”. She has also been in video game titles like “Dynasty Warriors 7″, “Sakura Taisen V”, and “Ar Tonelico Qoga”. Her other claim to fame comes from her popular YouTube Channel ValerieVee.

Sorry for the delay. This past month has been less than generous technology wise. I have posted a new article about my experience at Pacific Media Expo. The short answer, glad to see PMX making the move with more potential to grow. Here’s hoping the next move will be to the convention center two blocks away.

PMX to Hold Way of the Stick and the Blade: Tournament of Filipino Martial Arts

Pacific Media Expo announced that they will be holding the “Way of the Stick and the Blade” during the convention. The competition is open to all levels of experience and will feature three different competitions: Esgrima, Kali, and Arnis.

The Esgrinma and Kali tournaments will follow the World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation (WEKAF) regulations, and Arnis will follow double elimination format.

The competition will be taking place on Saturday, November 12th. Registration for the first competition is $75, and $25 for each event thereafter. You can register at the convention Friday, November 12th from 7-10pm, or Saturday, November 13th 7-9am. For more information visit PacificMediaExpo.org.

Hiromi Kato and Jang Dong-gun to Appear at Pacific Media Expo 2010

Pacific Media Expo posted on their website that animator/director/character designer Hiromi Kato and actor Jang Dong-gun will be appearing at the convention.

Hiromi Kato is known for his work in anime titles Revolutionary Girl Utena, Di Gi Charat Nyo and BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad. Jang Dong-gun has appeared in two of South Korea’s highest grossing movies Friend and Tae Guk Gi: The Brotherhood of War. He won Best Supporting Actor at the 2000 Asia Pacific Film Festival for the former.

Pacific Media Expo announced yesterday that Actress Amy Okuda will be appearing at the convention. She is currently acting in the web series “The Guild”.

Pacific Media Expo Announces Two Events and a Raffle

For those of you who are going to be free in the LA area this coming weekend, PMX, and the Kyodo Japanese Language School System would like you to take part in the Anime Swap Meet and Cosplay Contest. It will be taking place at the Monterey Park Cherry Blossom Festival.

The festival will be taking place on April 17 & 18 with the contest taking place on Sunday at 4:30. The festival is free to the public. For more details, please go to the City of Monterey Park’s website.

In other news, PMX will also be attending Project HyperJam in (South) San Francisco on April 24th. The concert will be featuring local J-pop and J-rock bands from 5 to 11 p.m. for more information visit http://project760.webs.com/projecthyperjam.htm.

PMX to Participate in Local Cherry Blossom Festival

For those of you who are going to be in the Monterey Park area mid-April, Pacific Media Expo would like to invite you in being part of the Monterey Park Cherry Blossom Festival. The invitation goes double if you would like to be part of their PMX Collectors’ Swap Meet.
The event will be taking place on Saturday and Sunday April 18th & 19th at Barnes Park (Gymnasium). There is no admission charge to attend the event, and according to their website PMX is also selling table space for those who want to sell some of their collection. They will begin to sell space on March 31 at 8 P.M. (PST).
