I Like Rainbows – Infamous and Prototype Tie-Breaker

Comments Off

For those of you that follow Zero Punctuation, you may recall that Yahtzee did a comparison between the video games Infamous and Prototype. After pointing out their strong and weak points, the charismatic stallion was unable to declare a winner. Assuming his advice would go unheard, he suggested that both studios could break the tie by drawing their rival studio’s main character in a bra.

Apparently both of them were listening.

Back on Friday Yahtzee wrote an short article on the Escapist, stating that representatives from both Sucker Punch and Radical had taken his offer seriously and had sent him images of the other studios character looking very pretty (or at least trying). Yahtzee pointed out that not only did were both Cole McGrath and Alex using their powers to make themselves extra fabulous, but they were drawn with a rainbow and a unicorn.

To read the full article and to check out the pictures (I dare you) you can click here.

Kudos to both studios for being such good sports.

The Escapist Rivalry – Yahtzee on Unskippable

Fellow Escapist personality Yahtzee joined Graham Stark and Paul Saunders today on Unskippable. At the end of the skit the Aussie residing critic called Graham and Paul out, followed by the two of them hinting an appearance this coming Wednesday April 1st.

IMHO:

1. While I thought YZ was a bit stiff I do gotta take into account that he probably wasn’t even in the same time zone as Graham and Paul. At least this meeting betwen “rivals” was funnier than Jon Stweart’s intervew with Jim Cramer (oh yeah I went there). In short I do like the whole idea of Escapist personalities wokring with each other and, hopefully if they ever do this again, the guest star’s audio bytes won’t sound so artificial.

2. While I’m looking forward to the show on Wednesday, I can’t help but notice the date and speculate if it is just a joke. Will they actually appear on Zero Punctuation? Or is this an April Fools prank? Place your bets.

For Your Consideration… Game Damage

Comments Off

A few weeks ago a friend showed me this skit on a famous website where people played an FPS and talked about the economy. As I sat there watching the whole thing I swear I could hear my brain screaming out loud from fear of exploding. While I understand that everyone (myself included) is trying their best to stand out amongst the crowd, I began to wonder if this was really the best the web could offer in reporting about the industry. Fortunately I got my answer today in the form of no. I got that answer from the (pasty) bad boy of video game reviews Yahtzee in a new show he’s trying to promote called Game Damage.

For all the bells and whistles that people are trying to pull, the concept is very simple. Three guys sit down in front of a camera and have a creative and constructive discussion about the industry. They throw in a witty skit from time to time to break things up. They’re also not afraid to not hold back any punches, and give their honest opinions about a subject.

Unlike other shows where people just jabber away while playing games, I actually felt like my brain was being fed. The show has a very clean look to it, and it doesn’t look like a bunch of guys just threw it together. For now the trio is looking for sponsorship and hopes of being picked up by network. You can check out their pilot video at the top, or for more information go to gamedamage.net.
